Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Illustrated by Michael Whelan.
This is # 44 of 725. Signed and dated: 'Stephen King, July 5, 1980'. The first of the four days that it took Stephen King to sign his first limited edition. Firestarter was Stephen King's first signed limited edition and this edition predates the First Viking Trade Edition by nearly three months.
Though this limited edition is beautifully constructed, it was not as well protected as many of his later signed limited editions, being housed in an open sided slipcase and also having a dust jacket which got considerable wear from sliding in and out of the slipcase. Consequently, few have survived in excellent condition. The book is bound in dark blue leather boards with gilt printing and this one is fine: straight, clean and tight with no damage or soiling, and no handwriting other than the author's on the limitation page at the back of the text. The dust jacket is also fine: price intact ($35.00), clean, crisp and bright with Whelan's famous artwork in unfaded condition and with no damage or wear. It has been protected by a removable, clear mylar cover. The leather-texture slipcase is also in fine condition, with no tears, soiling or damage, though there's a hint of a tiny surface wear on the bottom of the slipcase.
Firestarter was made into a movie in 1984 that starred Drew Barrymore as the lead star, and also starring Martin Sheen, Heather Locklear, George C. Scott and Art Carney.
